This commentary analyzes the legacy of the hostage crisis at Moscow's Dubrovka Theater in October 2002. The author rebuilds the sequence of events that brought to the death of 129 hostages. He argues that this tragic event stands out as a symbol of the Russian authorities’ disregard for human life in hostage situations.
