This paper explores the logic behind India maintaining continuity in its foreign policy after it gained independence from its position in the British Raj. It provides a historical overview of similarities and differences in India’s security policy in various political regimes as well as different economic and geopolitical environments. In the authors view, as India becomes one of the leading economies of the world and a significant military power, traditional security policy is gaining a fresh lease of life. Furthermore, it is starting to look beyond its immediate neighborhood.
