This issue of the Perspectives on Terrorism addresses a range of issues in the field of terrorism studies. The first topic discussed is the "superterrorism" debate and lessons learned from the history of chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN) terrorism. The second article addresses the main challenges in defining terrorism and the need for a clear set of criteria to distinguish and conceptualize terrorism as a unique form of political violence. The third article in this issue presents a review of Rapoport's theory on the four waves of modern international terrorism.
