This paper argues that economic reconstruction and innovation should be at the core of peacebuilding efforts. The author contends that international actors responding to violent conflict have historically placed greater emphasis on immediate security concerns to the neglect of economic policies that promote long-term reconciliation in conflict-ridden states. The paper suggests that international efforts should focus on bespoke solutions that take local conditions into account and which quickly shift the focus from humanitarian assistance to economic reconstruction.
