This paper examines space security and the emerging normative framework governing the use of space, particularly in relation to the Asia-Pacific. The work focuses on the initiatives undertaken for the development of norms of behavior in space and what the characteristics of effective legal instruments could be. The author notes that the legal regime in the Asia-Pacific is characterized by flexible, non-binding arrangements which depend on trust, cooperation and an awareness of common interests.
