This paper examines the relationship between economic development and good governance. Post-conflict states frequently suffer from corruption which distorts commercial investment and results in inequitable outcomes. Many foreign corporations are subject to extra-territorial penalties if their home authorities detect corrupt practices. The author argues that the legitimate demands for corporate leadership on this issue should be complemented by political and institutional support. This would ensure greater economic development outcomes and greatly enhance peacebuilding efforts.
