This paper provides an analysis of the role information and communication technologies (ICT) can play in assisting international actors, governments and civil society in preventing violence and conflict. To do this, it first gives an overview of data collection tools as they apply to conflict prevention. It then focuses on case studies from Latin America, Africa and Central Asia that demonstrate the use of ICT tools in a range of conflict situations. Finally, the work highlights the major obstacles to and opportunities for the use of such technology in conflict prevention. It also provides recommendations for policymakers and practitioners in the field.
