This paper examines the coordination of peace operations between the United Nations and the African Union. The authors highlight the roles played by each organization and use the example of the AU's Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to illustrate the positive and negative aspects of AU-UN relations. The paper outlines the major challenges to achieving effective inter-organizational peace operations and provides a number of recommendations to AU and UN policymakers.
