This paper examines the major policy challenges facing Mosche Yaalon, Israel's incoming defense minister in 2013. The author argues that the minister should focus on strategic questions rather than engage in operational aspects. He also suggests that he needs to adjust quickly to his position to deal with issues connected to Iran's nuclear program, the long-term objectives of Israel's armed forces and policy toward the Palestinian territories..
