Israel's 33rd government has formally committed itself to pursuing a peace agreement and political settlement with the Palestinians. This brief asks whether a referendum is an appropriate instrument for such an agreement given the likely changes to Israel's territorial sovereignty and relocation of settlers. The author outlines the advantages and disadvantages of such a process. The brief also discusses the ballot structure, approval threshold and legislative approval of the referendum process.
