This speech outlines the major achievements of the African Union (AU) since 1963 and indicates its likely future. The speaker argues that regional cooperation is gaining momentum on the continent, especially since 2000. The AU has a growing role in preventing conflict and in fostering economic cooperation. While the organization is confronting new challenges, the speaker is optimistic about the AU realizing its long-term objectives of peaceful coexistence and economic development.
