This policy brief examines Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in May 2013. The author argues that the visit was prompted mainly by issues connected to the conflict in Syria. He examines the background to the visit, including talks between Russia, the UK and the US on Syria. He concludes that while Russia has indicated that it is prepared to make concessions to the West on Syria, it suggests they will not be made without gaining something in return.
