This brief examines the Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft system and the role that it might play in Syria's national defense. More specifically, it analyzes why the Assad government needs the system, whether the Syrian military can actually operate it effectively, and if Moscow is truly prepared to supply it to Damascus or not.
