This policy brief examines the commitment of the US government to prevent Iran's acquisition of nuclear weapons. The author argues that Washington's suggestion that it is committed to prevention is not supported by actions. The diplomatic process has achieved few results, the capacity for US intelligence services to monitor Iran's nuclear program is uncertain, and it is unclear whether President Barack Obama is willing to use military force. Given this, the author concludes that the US may be moving towards a default policy of containment.
