This policy brief explores how Persian Gulf states are responding to perceived threats related to political Islam. The author argues that these states are stable in comparison to others in the region, but the conduct of some suggests an increase in concern over political Islam and parties such as the Muslim Brotherhood. The states have implemented a number of measures to neutralize such elements. However, the author argues that even if the Gulf States unify to oppose movements like the Muslim Brotherhood, they cannot ensure immunity against their popularity.
