This commentary discusses the economic repercussions of the Arab Spring, particularly in Lebanon and Egypt. It suggests that the Arab Spring is damaging trading links, impeding investment, and making many in the region jobless. Furthermore, it says these factors are compounding the economic problems that helped spur the uprisings in the first place. However, the author also suggests that even in non-oil rich Arab countries, the economic situation over the long term will be better than before the Arab Spring.
