This brief discusses some of the public opinion trends that emerged in Egyptian social media against the backdrop of the kidnapping of Egyptian soldiers in 2013 as well as the negotiations for their release. The opinions gathered by the author reflect Egyptian society’s views of the Muslim Brotherhood-military relations, Sinai, Gaza, and the peace treaty with Israel. He argues that, overall, Egyptian social media activists advocate transparency and the end of the withholding of information from the Egyptian public.
