This policy brief examines the political and social context that characterized the revolutionary transitional phase that followed the fall of the Mubarak regime in Egypt. According to the author, the way President Morsi was ousted indicates that there is little basis to the common claim that post-Mubarak Egypt has entered an Islamic winter. However, it is incorrect to assume that establishment of a governmental order based on values of freedom and social justice will be possible without including the Islamists.
