This concept paper looks at some of the distinct understandings of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and relates them to basic economic and ethical choices and theories. It does this by examining the nature of the normative choices involved across different forms of CSR expenditures and across countries at different income levels and public governance capabilities for a single enterprise.
