This report analyzes the 2012 US defense strategy “Sustaining US Global Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defense”. The authors outline how the strategy intended to reshape defense priorities, activities, and budgets, and yet, did not account for the possibility of further, significant budget cuts. In concluding, the authors discuss whether the risks posed by the spending cuts should be newly evaluated, or the objectives of the strategy itself, reconsidered.
