This report offers an overview of the role of strategy in conducting the business of national security in the US. It reviews the major statutory and non-statutory mandates for national security activities and analyzes key issues, such as strategy updates, the prioritization of objectives, the roles and responsibilities of relevant agencies, and resourcing, that may be of interest to Congress for overseeing strategy-making.
