This commentary argues that America should rethink its hard-power-centered outlook on North Africa. In order to illustrate a new perspective, the author hints at a speech delivered by Morocco's King Mohammed VI during his trip to Mali in September 2013 in which, to counter radical Islam, he pursues a soft-power approach with a religious dimension. Again referring to the King's speech, the author also stresses the need for increased trade and investment between America and the region to help build a peaceful and prosperous future.
