This brief examines the tensions between Russia and the US and both countries' interests in the Middle East. The author argues that the crisis will not last and that relations will recover. This is because he does not think that it is in the interest of either Moscow or Washington to truly alter their relations. Instead, he thinks that both states are posturing to improve their bargaining positions on issues such as the crisis in Syria.
