This analysis examines Australia's defense policies and capabilities in light of the growing competition and risks presented by Asian states. The authors argue that, as technologies change and countries with faster growing economies spend more on their armed forces, Australia is losing its military edge in the region. They also argue that the Australia-US security alliance may be threatened if Australia cannot maintain the credibility of its military in the eyes of the US.
