This paper focuses on the attempts by criminal groups to corrupt Europe's first line of defense against human trafficking -- i.e., its border guards. In analyzing this problem, the paper looks at 1) the broader context of human trafficking in the EU, 2) the extent of corruption that actually exists among border control authorities, and 3) the interrelationship between corruption, organized crime and trafficking.
