This paper outlines some of the key challenges facing UN police missions and proposes solutions to meet these. After briefly outlining the UN police's selection, recruitment and deployment structures, the authors provide a brief overview of the challenges facing UN police performance in the field. In concluding, they make some recommendations to UN member states to broaden the base of police-contributing countries and improve the recruitment and training of UN police.
