This publication focuses on analyzing and reporting on trends in current and emerging conflicts and their resolution on the African continent. Some of the specific topics covered in this issue include: 1) the African Union's doctrine on regime change; 2) counterterrorism policy implications of the Westgate mall terrorist attack; 3) United Nations Security Council reform; 4) ECOWAS's involvement in the political and security crises in Guinea-Bissau; 5) the implications of the Arab Spring for democratization in North Africa; 6) how the May 2012 coup in Mali can inform an understanding of security sector reform in Africa; and 7) the portrayal of Africa in the media. The issue also contains a book review.
