This report evaluates the plan of the Visegrad countries (V4) to build up the first region-wide EU battle group by 2016 and explores the plan's contribution to V4 regional defense collaboration. The authors outline how the battle group could allow deeper collaboration within the group and would help the V4 develop the capacity to think and operate at levels unattainable in a solely national context. It also provides specific recommendations on how the V4 would benefit from more permanent forms of cooperation.
