This bulletin examines Japan’s diplomacy towards the rest of East Asia as a critical factor in shaping the region’s strategic landscape in 2014. After mentioning the displeasure caused by Prime Minister Abe’s visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, the author puts forward three recommendations for Japan that could help improve relations with Beijing and Seoul and reassure the US and ASEAN that Tokyo will not further increase antagonism with its neighbors.
