This brief examines the state of democracy in Egypt following the ousting of Mohamed Morsi in 2013 and what the US can do to promote democratic reform in the country. The author ends the piece by talking about how the US should use its combined leverage in relation to Egypt in four areas: democratic legitimization; military aid, security cooperation, and economic engagement.
