This brief discusses Russia's efforts to increase its influence in the Middle East by taking advantage of unpopular US foreign policy decisions in order to forge closer ties with several countries in the region. The author says that while Russia may not succeed in replacing the United States’ dominance in the region, Moscow's advances may still prove beneficial to all the parties involved.
