This report analyzes the political and economic situation in Venezuela and the country’s foreign policy orientation. It then examines US relations and policy towards Venezuela including several key issues that have been at the forefront of US congressional interest: 1) democracy and human rights; 2) energy, including US-Venezuelan energy linkages; 3) drug trafficking; and 4) terrorism issues, including Venezuela’s relations with Iran.
