This report analyzes the composition and drivers of energy prices and costs in energy intensive industries in the EU. It contributes to ongoing debate about how to ensure the competitiveness of the EU economy while adopting a new energy framework in line with its environmental targets. To that end, it focuses on the ceramics, flat glass and chemicals industries and presents an analysis of their energy price levels and structures; their energy intensity and efficiency; the impact of energy prices and their components on production costs; and a comparison of prices and costs with non-EU production sites.
