This paper suggests Russia and Egypt may be on the verge of signing a large arms deal. The authors predict the potential deal could see Egypt acquire arms equipment worth US $2-3 billion and Russia access to the port of Alexandria. They further explain that the talks come on the back of tensions in US-Egypt relations and could set the impetus for further Russian expansion into the Middle East. However, they also suggest the deal may not happen due to Egypt's financial constraints and concerns about how this would affect is jeopardizing its traditional partnership with the US.
