This paper suggests that America’s armed forces are worn out and perhaps also not prepared for the emerging security environment as the wars of the post 9/11 period come to an end. It is therefore time, the author argues, to increase focus on planning the structure, size and composition of the forces. The paper also talks about the current security challenges facing America, the minimum military requirements for dealing with them, and ways in which the US may achieve these goals.
