This essay examines the possibility of a terrorist or criminal organization acquiring fissile material and then 'weaponizing' it. In doing so, it explores 1) the nature of weapons-usable material, 2) the ways a 'bad actor' could gain possession of it, 3) the method and effect of weaponizing such material into a nuclear device, and 4) the overall phenomenon of nuclear smuggling.
