This paper discusses the political and security challenges facing Hezbollah in both Lebanon and the wider Middle East region. In particular, the authors focus on Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian civil war as well as the implications of the establishment of a national unity executive cabinet in February 2014, which ended an eleven month period in which the country had no sitting government. They also argue that Israel needs to ensure that it does not become involved in the civil war in Syria or domestic instability in Lebanon following possible Hezbollah attacks against the Golan Heights and the Mount Dov area, which came as a possible response to alleged Israeli operations against Hezbollah.
