This commentary discusses the significance of President Obama's visit to Malaysia in 2014. More specifically, it looks at the visit's potential to encourage Malaysia into playing a greater role as a regional actor; help address security concerns resulting from Chinese territorial claims in the South China Sea; as well as serve as an opportunity to upgrade US-Malaysian relations.
