In light of the political turmoil in Ukraine and Moscow’s intervention in Crimea in early 2014, this paper looks at the state of relations between Russia and the West over Ukraine. The author argues that even though it appears that a compromise was found by the West and Russia over Ukraine, it is unlikely that Moscow will accept the situation as it stands as it is highly interested in continuing the consolidation of its geopolitical position, at least in its historic sphere of influence.
