This brief evaluates the performance of PakVotes, a social media initiative designed to track violence in relatively remote areas during the 2013 general elections in Pakistan. The author explains how PakVotes was organized, its objectives, the challenges it faced and its relevance. She also identifies lessons gleaned from the PakVotes initiative for future efforts on the use of social media to record and publicize the use of violence during elections.
