This paper focuses on the erosion of human security and state sovereignty across Western Africa. It suggests that while international efforts to blunt organized crime, enhance governance and lower insecurity have increased, particularly since the collapse of Mali in 2012, local 'voices' in these processes remain absent. To address this problem, the paper's authors conducted field research in seven communities in Guinea-Bissau, Mali and Niger. Their concerns are given a voice here, particularly when it comes to the scope, potential impacts and necessary priorities of the problems they face.
