This paper examines the diplomatic practices of small states both at the UN and in the broader international system. By drawing upon the reflections and ideas of small state ambassadors, the paper defines what such a state is, explores its diplomatic strengths and weaknesses, and discusses how small states might increase their level of engagement within the UN system.
