This paper addresses the April 23, 2014 agreement on reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, and the subsequent decision by the Israeli government to initiate a formal suspension of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiation process. The author argues that as the developing Fatah-Hamas reconciliation process has no obvious implications for the Israeli-Palestinian negotiation process, the reasoning behind the Israeli government’s decision is not self-evident and that Tel Aviv should have pursued a different response.
