This paper contains a collection of articles discussing the legacy of Samuel P Huntington’s 1993 article “The Clash of Civilizations?”. Individual contributions focus on 1) the accuracy of Huntington’s division of the world; 2) the shortcomings of his culturist approach in explaining the relationship between Islam and violence; 3) the ways in which Huntington’s thesis can be applied in present-day discourse; 4) this thesis’ place within Huntington’s body of work and within the broader climate of post-Cold War academia; and 5) the historical evolution of the concept of “Clash of Civilizations”.
