This paper examines South Africa's engagement in the African Union (AU) in the areas of post-conflict reconstruction and development (PCRD) and peacebuilding. More specifically, the authors look at South Africa's White Paper on Foreign Policy on PCRD and peacebuilding in the AU and the country's engagements in the AU between 1994 and 2014. They then consider the AU's policy on PCRD and where the framework stands in the implementation process. Finally, they examine the perceptions of various stakeholders of South Africa’s engagement in the AU.
