This commentary argues that traditional notions of state sovereignty are becoming increasingly irrelevant in today's interconnected world. The author further contends that countries in East Asia should therefore devote their resources to strengthening peace and caring for their aging populations rather than involving themselves in disputes over sovereign territory and embarking on expensive military build-ups.
