This brief discusses why advocates and practitioners of women's rights should work with religious leaders in Afghanistan to improve the level of these rights in the country. Among other reasons, the author suggests that engagement with religious leaders could lead more people in Afghanistan to accept the importance of women's rights and enduring changes in behavior. She also addresses how women's rights practitioners can effectively engage with religious leaders.
