This commentary reflects on the century between the start of WWI and 2014 and contends that the EU has brought enormous benefits to its citizens by extending the frontiers of peace and security. The author also warns that populist groups are trying to undermine the foundations of the EU and calls upon the Union to increase its efforts in demonstrating that the European integration project is both vital and necessary for continued peace and prosperity on the continent.
