This brief examines the position in which the June 2014 abduction of three Israeli teenagers has left the main actors of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The authors suggest that the abduction has already caused a security escalation that could lead to a large scale Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip as well as an extensive outbreak of violence in the West Bank. They also analyze the dilemmas faced by Abbas, Hamas, non-Hamas elements in the Gaza Strip and Israel, in terms of how to behave in the post-abduction period given the possibility of a further escalation in violence.
