This paper discusses the possibility that Moldova’s signature of an association agreement with the EU in June 2014 could lead to its Găgăuzia region to seek independence. He also discusses the historical ties between Găgăuzia and Russia, the interests of the main actors involved (NATO, Russia, Romania, Turkey), and the role played by Russia in this crisis.
